VietJet Air held an unusual event on one of its flights — a dance show in which contestants in a local beauty contest danced in the plane’s aisle. Then, after dancing, they interacted with the passengers, talking to them and handing out souvenirs.

“It was the first flight to a beach town, so we came up with the idea of getting a number of girls in bikinis to dance and make passengers happy to improve our customer service,” an official of VietJet Air told the Daily Mail of London.

However, despite seemingly good feedback from the passengers, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) found it inappropriate. The airline was fined 20 million Vietnamese dong (US$980).

Trong Thang Nguyen, chief inspector of the agency, said, “They should have registered [with us] before they held the show.”

“This is the first time an airline has organized a bikini dance aboard a flight in Vietnam,” he added.

The show also “violated local aviation regulations,” he said.
