A SUSPECTED cannibal was charged with murder today after allegedly hacking a Connecticut man to death and eating part of his brain.

Tyree Lincoln Smith, 35, is said to have killed Angel Gonzalez with an axe before scooping up an eyeball and a portion of his brain, according to the Connecticut Post.

He stuffed the dismembered organs into a plastic bag and took them to a cemetery before consuming them at the site of his brother’s grave, police told the paper.

The gruesome crime went undiscovered for weeks until a property inspector came across Gonzalez’s mutilated body last Friday inside a vacant apartment in Bridgeport, Connecticut, northeast of New York City.

A breakthrough in the case came on Monday when a relative of Smith came forward describing how he had visited her on December 15, ranting about Greek gods, calling her Athena – and vowing “to get blood on his hands”.

He returned the next day – clutching an axe and wearing blood-spattered clothes – and confessed to having killed a Hispanic man who invited him inside the apartment complex where he used to live.

Smith had been sleeping on the building’s back porch when he was woken by his alleged victim, who offered him shelter from the cold.

After following him inside, Smith battered the Good Samaritan in the face and head with an axe, according to his apparent confession.

He then retrieved some of his victim’s bloody remains and took them to a nearby cemetery where he allegedly consumed an eyeball and a piece of brain whilst visiting his brother’s grave.

Smith boarded a Greyhound bus on January 20 but was arrested last night in Lynn Haven, a town in the Florida panhandle, on suspicion of murder.

A drifter with an apparent history of mental health problems, Smith is now being held on $1 million bond pending extradition to Connecticut, the Post said.

Friends and relatives of 43-year-old Gonzalez told the paper he was a drunk but insisted he was good-natured and harmless.

“Here it is that my dad was trying to help this guy, telling him to come inside from the cold,” a stepchild, Odalys Vazquez, 25, said.

“If my father was helping him stay warm, what kind of person is it who does this, who repays him by swinging an ax at him and hitting him so hard it blows his brains out?”

A Palestinian woman was imprisoned for nine years in a bathroom by her father, beaten, barely fed and only let out at night, a social worker and police said on Monday.

She was given only a blanket, a radio, and a razor blade by her father, who encouraged her to kill herself, said the social worker, Hala Shreim.

Palestinian police freed Baraa Melhem on Saturday in the West Bank town of Qalqilya, after a relative told authorities of the woman’s plight, said spokesman Adnan Damiri. Authorities said Melhem was in her early twenties and that she was initially locked up when she was between 10 and 12 years old. The woman was found by Shreim and the police in a small bathroom with a tiny window. She wrapped herself in a blanket for warmth, and her father also gave her used clothes.

“It’s a miracle she didn’t go mad. She had a small radio that she used to listen to programs. She was aware of herself — of her own mental health. She said the radio was her only friend in the darkness,” said Shreim. The social worker said Melhem was well-spoken and up-to-date on current affairs because she listened so intently to the radio.

The young woman was not immediately available for comment, but told Israel’s Maariv newspaper that she hoped her father would suffer as she did. “I want them to put him in an underground bathroom, so he doesn’t see the light of day for 11 years, without food and water, to let him go through what I went through,” she said.

Baraa Melhem’s mother, who remarried and moved to a different town, asked about her daughter, but her ex-husband would make up excuses why the young woman wasn’t around and sometimes told the mother to mind her own business, Shreim said.

The young woman told a newspaper that said she stopped asking to see her mother, because her father would beat her every time she made the request. It was not clear why the mother did not report to police earlier that she had not seen her daughter for years. The young woman’s paternal aunt finally told Shreim of the situation. Shreim says she then persuaded the aunt to alert police.

In a statement the young woman gave to the social worker, she said her father locked her up when she was about 10 years old after she ran away from school. Police returned her home and her father later forced her to sign a statement saying she didn’t want to go back to school. Melhem’s parents divorced when she was young and her father had custody.

Melhem told the social worker her father initially locked her up because he said he wanted to protect her from the world outside, describing other people as “animals,” the social worker said. The father, who moved to the West Bank, was transferred to Israeli police. They identified him as 49-year-old Hassan Melhem.

Shreim said the young woman had been locked in the bathroom with a heavy metal door and an outside lock. She told the social worker that her father beat her with electric cables and sticks when he was angry, poured cold water on her when she asked for her mother, and sometimes shaved her head and eyebrows. She was only let out late at night to clean the rest of the house, and given leftover food.

At one point, her father gave her a razor blade, telling her it would be better if the young woman killed herself, Shreim quoted her as saying. The social worker said the young woman clung to the hope that she would be found one day, drawing strength from her small radio.

The father appears to have created a culture of fear and silence among his family, who were terrified of even speaking about the imprisoned girl. He remarried to another woman, and had two other children, aged 11 and 18, Shreim said. His new family was also locked in the house when he wasn’t around, she added.

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the father was being held in jail pending a court hearing on Wednesday. Rosenfeld said the man’s wife was also detained for questioning. Social worker Shreim said the young woman’s first request, after she was released, was for hard candy — something she had been denied since she was a child.

Then she asked to see her mother.

The reporters tried to contact for the bridegroom for an interview but failed to contact him.

A man raped and murdered his close friend’s nine-month pregnant girlfriend.

After killing Nikitta, Carl Whant, 27, set fire to her bed to cover up his crime, a court heard yesterday.

Whant cold bloodedly plunged a knife into the stomach of Nikitta Grender, 19, which penetrated through to the liver of her unborn baby daughter, the jury was told.

The gory episode did not end there; he stabbed Nikitta in the neck and severed an artery.

He set fire to the bed to make it look like Nikitta had died in a house fire.

Nikitta was just two weeks away from giving birth to her baby. She and boyfriend Ryan Mayes, 18, decided to name the child Kelsey-May.

The Sun reported, that Ryan “idolised” Whant and regarded him as a father figure. The two used to work together as salesmen for a local window company.

Nikitta was weary abou their close proximity. She doubted that when they went out, they used to indulge in drinking and taking cocaine.

Whant, of Newport, denies murder, child destruction, rape and arson. The case continues.

She sat down on the toilet bowl in her master bedroom bathroom on March 25, 2009.

For the next 902 days, the small, white-tiled room became Madam Leong Mee Yan’s home.

She ate her meals there and slept there. And no amount of cajoling from her husband would make her leave the toilet bowl.

Madam Leong, now 58, claimed that she felt a strong force holding her down every time she tried to get up.

She also imagined stones being hurled and water sprayed at her by people she could not see, preventing her from leaving the bathroom.

Said Madam Leong, who was naked throughout the 902 days, in Mandarin: “I didn’t understand what was happening, I only felt all the sensations which prevented me from standing or leaving the bathroom.”

During her two-and-a-half year stay in the bathroom, Madam Leong showered a total of 18 times, said her husband, Mr Ong Kian Ann.

Those were the only occasions that she would move from the toilet bowl.

Mr Ong, 64, said: “I had to take a stool into the bathroom for her. Then I would slowly help her shift from the toilet bowl to the stool, and she would bathe herself with the shower head.”

Aside from her husband, Madam Leong, a Malaysian who’s a permanent resident here, did not see anyone during those years, including her only child, Mr Ong Jiing Yih, 27.

A Los Angeles woman was being held on $US2000 bail today after being arrested on charges of offering sexual favours in return for McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets. 

She was arrested on January 11 at a Burbank McDonald’s after she approached the restaurant’s manager, told him she was hungry and offered sexual favours in return for food, specifically McNuggets, The Los Angeles Times said.

She also was seen opening the car doors of customers in the drive-through lane, police told the Burbank Leader.

“She solicits money from customers and is always causing some sort of disturbance,” the manager, who was not identified, told police, according to Sgt Darin Ryburn.

Police were called because Ms Baseer refused to leave the restaurant property.

The woman’s previous run-ins with law enforcement are not known. She faces charges of suspicion of prostitution, The Times said.

Job lost for skipping lunch and working on project.

You work less you lose your job. You work overtime and expect to be rewarded all the time – think again.

Sharon Smiley had been working in a real estate company for 10 years. But she lost her job because she decided to skip her lunch and instead finish her pending work. 
It’s been two years now 48-year-old Smiley is entangled in a legal battle with her former employee. 

Smiley who was a receptionist and administrative assistant recalled the incident and said that she was asked to go to lunch and step away from her desk, but she refused.

Her manager observed Smiley working on the project during her lunch hour. 

The human resources director said it was violation of company rules and Illinois’ labour laws. 

The fact that Smiley worked during her lunch hour cast a bad light on the company’s image. 

Since she was discharged for misconduct, Smiley was also ineligible for unemployment benefits, reported ABC News.

Smiley was also under lot of stress while working and suffered health issues.

After approaching the Illinois Department of Employment Security’s board for 3 times, Smiley finally took her case to a circuit court. But she did not challenge the firing. 

The court ruled the case in favour of Smiley for unemployment benefits. 

She now has a new satisfying job.

Fair-haired, green-eyed toddler Emmanuel Ofor is born to black parents.

His baffled mum and dad have still not managed to find an explanation for the genetic mix-up three years after the youngster was born, The Sun reported.

This comes after The Sun revealed on Tuesday how blonde, blue-eyed newborn Nmachi Ihegboro’s arrival had amazed black parents Ben and Angela who believe they have now Emmanuel – whose two sisters, Afoma, six, and six-month-old Whitney are both black – is also beginning to wonder why he looks different.

Dad Ethelbert, 43, said yesterday: “It is something genetic but we don’t know what.

“Emmanuel has got to the age where he is questioning why he is white and his sisters are black.

“We have to tell him that we just don’t know the answer.”

Mum Nkemakonam, 34, said nurses gathered round in amazement when she gave birth to Emmanuel in February 2007.

She revealed: “I was shocked as well – but not as much as everyone else.

“I have a distant cousin back home in Africa who had been born white to black parents as well, so I knew it could happen.”

Shu Ye, a farmer who resides in Donguan, Guangdong Province, said that the monkey and goat, owned by a nearby circus, sneak into the farmer’s field and eat the crops.

The monkey apparently stands on the back of the goat to make sure there is no one around.

Once the coast is clear, it rides in on the back of the goat and starts pilfering the produce.

The man claims that the daring heists coincide with the arrival of the circus.

Thankfully, Wu Jun, a spokesman for the troupe, has been incredibly apologetic, stating that they have provided Ye with compensation for the stolen crops.

The animals aren’t guarded at night, so to combat this issue, Wu has hired additional animal keepers to watch over the larcenous goat and monkey.

A happy end to a weird story.
