Her hips certainly do not lie.

Mikel Ruffinelli, 39, a 420-pound woman with an eight-foot circumference, set the new world record for World’s Largest Hips, according to the World Record Academy.

The mother of four, of Los Angeles, Calif., stands at just five-foot-four, has a proportionally small 40-inch waist, and is completely content with her shape, the Daily Mail reported.

“I see no reason to diet because I don’t have health problems,” Mikel said. “Men don’t fancy skinny girls, they like an hourglass figure.”

Ruffinelli’s husband, Reggie Brooks, and she have been married for 10 years. “She had a sweet disposition about her that really attracted me to her,” Brooks told Barcroft TV. “I like to tell people all the time, ‘I have a license to work with heavy equipment,’”

Still, Ruffinelli’s 100-inch wide hips makes everyday tasks difficult. According to the World Record Academy, the plus-size model must drive a truck and use a reinforced chair at home to accomodate her frame. She also struggles with fitting through door entrances and sleeps in a 7-foot-wide bed, Closer reported.

Ruffinelli first began gaining weight when she was 22, after having her first child.

“I put it down to my pregnancies,” she said. “I don’t see why else the weight would go to my hips, although, I do eat lots.” “Lots” includes nearly 3,000 calories a day.

“In the past, I was self-conscious about my hips,” Ruffinelli said. “As I got older, I learned to love my body and now I’m not afraid to show it off.”

Kelly Carl Hildebrandt and Kelly Karina Hildebrandt have decided to pull the plug on their three-year marriage after learning that having identical names doesn’t necessarily mean a marriage made in heaven.

“We gave it our best shot,” husband Kelly Carl Hildebrandt, told US TV network NBC.

The pair, whose improbable Facebook romance captured worldwide attention in 2009, have filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences.”

“She’s a Florida girl, and I’m a Texas guy,” Kelly Carl Hildebrandt of Lubbock, Texas, said.

“We really did come from pretty different worlds.”

Their modern romance was a match made in cyberspace.

Kelly Katrina Hildebrandt was curious and bored one night in 2008, so she plugged her name into Facebook just to see if anyone shared it.

At the time, Kelly Carl Hildebrandt, of Lubbock, Texas, was the only match.

So she sent him a message.

“She said ‘Hi. We had the same name. Thought it was cool,’” Kelly Carl Hildebrandt said. “I thought she was pretty cute.”

But there were also concerns.

“I thought, man, we’ve got to be related or something,” he said.

For the next three months the two exchanged e-mails. Before he knew it, occasional phone calls turned into daily chats, sometimes lasting hours. He visited her in Florida after a few months and “fell head over heels.”

“I thought it was fun,” he said of that first online encounter. “I had no idea that it would lead to this.”

They married in 2009.

Stick your head in a sewer in the Colombian city of Medellin and you’ll find the cozy home of Miguel Restrepo and his wife, two happy underground squatters, and their dog Blackie.

Their digs are too small to stand up in, and it measures just three by two meters (10 by 7 feet). But somehow they have fitted it with a kitchen, a TV and a tile floor.

It’s been home sweet home for 20 years. Restrepo, 62, says he would not give it up for anything because living above ground would mean paying for public services, taxes and other kinds of hassle.

“I would not trade this for a house,” he told AFP.

Restrepo used to work as a scavenger gathering stuff to be recycled but dropped it because of lung trouble.

Now he and his wife, Maria Garcia, live off the charity of neighbors. Now and then Restrepo gets odd jobs watching over people’s cars.

“Some days we have more than enough food, and others we do not. But you get used to it,” he said.

Posh, or comfortable, it is not. But they have managed to seal themselves off from the rest of the sewer system by building cement walls.
Their place has a closet, a radio and a fan. That’s a big bonus because it gets real hot down there.

They have no shower, and wash with buckets of water. When it rains, they quickly deploy plastic sheeting at the sewer opening to protect their home from flooding.

“We live in an apartment. For me it is an apartment,” Restrepo said as he petted Blackie, who also lives in the sewer.

But wait, there is more.

Above ground, nearby, they have set up a garden area to grow flowers. These days it has a Christmas tree.

Passers-by in this industrial patch of Medellin like it, and Restrepo gets a kick out of that.

“You must reap in order to sow,” he said.

Restrepo is not from Medellin, Colombia’s second largest city, with a population of 2.4 million, but rather from a nearby town called Amaga.

He came here as a young man in search of work but ended up living on the streets, with drug addiction problems.

Now, he has no gripes about his situation. He consistently rejects offers from social workers to move into a shelter.

“I live better than the president,” Restrepo says. “He has lots of problems and I don’t have any.”

Tomas Paczkowski, 32, from Elbag, was determined to show wife Lila that he was just as good around the home as she is.

“I decided to do the ironing while she was out at work, just to prove a point,” he explained.

“Women are always going on about multi-tasking, so I set up the iron, opened a beer and put the boxing on the telly.

“Trouble was, I got so involved in the boxing that I wasn’t really thinking about what I was doing.

“So when the phone rang I picked up the iron by mistake and pressed it to my ear. The pain was incredible.”

And Mr Paczkowski added insult to injury when he rushed to the washroom to apply water on his burnt cheek and ears, only to ram into the bathroom door.

“That gave me a black eye so now I look more like I’ve been in a boxing match instead of just watching one,” he added.

Medics say he will make a full recovery from the burns – but Mr Paczkowski says he’s off housework for good.

“It makes me feel as if my son has never left me,” Tian said. “When my wife and I want to talk to him, we can just pull up some chairs, lift the lid and chat with him as if he had never been taken from us.”

According to Tian, his clever son had just started college when they found out his son’s incurable leukemia.

“We were devastated. We visited many doctors, but there was nothing else we could do. I just prayed we would not lose him,” Mr. Tian said.

“When he died, I just couldn’t face never seeing my child again, so we decided to put him in a freezer to preserve his body.”

What’s more devastating is that this is not the first time that one of their kids has died. Mr Tian’s daughter also died after collapsing on a hot summer day.

“After the death of my daughter, I gave up my job so that I could spend more time with my wife and son.”

He also said that at first not a lot of people knew about it, and then rumors started to spread.

“Not many people knew at first what we had done as we did not want anyone to find out. We kept it a secret for a long time. But over the years, the news spread.”

When asked if they will bury him eventually, he said, “One day the time will come when his mother and I can no longer look after him and we will then give him a proper burial, but now is not the time. When the time is right, we will give him the most dignified burial and have a celebration of his life, and invite everyone to pay their respects to him. But later.”

NEW YORK – Many artists claim to put their blood, sweat and tears into their work, but Vincent Castiglia means it: he paints with his own blood.

The New York painter has a new exhibit, “Resurrection,” in Manhattan’s Soho neighborhood that opened on Thursday and is due to run through October. It features a number of Castiglia’s paintings from the last 10 years, all of which were created with Castiglia’s blood.

Castiglia, 30, said in an interview this week that his first experiments with this medium were prompted by a “need to connect with my work on the most intimate level.”

Human blood contains iron oxide, he explained, a pigment found in many traditional paints, and which occurs naturally in iron ore and common rust.

The public’s reaction in the past has been overwhelmingly positive, he said, but he does not discount that some people could find his choice of medium creepy or gimmicky.

“My response would be to really take a look at the content of the work, which overshadows what it’s made from, I think,” he said. “In order for something to be a gimmick, it really would have to lack substance.”

His process includes making a preliminary pen or graphite sketch and extracting just enough “paint” in the privacy of his studio. He then pulls out his brushes to paint surrealistic, red ochre-hued images typically featuring human bodies in some stage of decay paired with abstract backgrounds.

One of his larger, more detailed paintings can take more than three months to complete. His paintings range in price from $950 to $26,000. Rock and blues musician Gregg Allman, who recently acquired a 2006 painting by Castiglia called “Gravity.”

His “Resurrection” exhibit is themed around Castiglia’s interest in life’s transience and harmony he sees between life and death.

As an example, he cited “Feeding,” which depicts a mother with decaying legs in a wheelchair gazing at an infant she is breastfeeding. Castiglia said he sees it as an expression of the fragility of life and the hope and drive that can still accompany it.

His work is shown primarily the United States and Europe, but Castiglia’s art may be familiar to slasher film and heavy metal aficionados. In 2010, a piece by Castiglia served as the poster for horror flick “Savage County,” and other paintings were used as album art for Swiss heavy metal band Triptykon’s debut “Eparistera Daimones” the same year.

A MAN who was told to wait 10 hours for a doctor to fix his sliced lip decided to use dental floss and a sewing needle to do it himself.

Allan Dell, 26, from Stuart Park, in Darwin, said he had no medical background but had pierced meat in the kitchen.

“I grew up in the bush in country NSW and I’m also a chef so I’m not too strange with threading meat … I used dental floss and a sewing needle – but I sterilised it all first,” he said.

Mr Dell had his lip sliced from the base of his nose down to his teeth in a “pure accident” that saw him hit in the face with a guitar.

He also cracked one of his teeth in the same accident. He said he went to the emergency department at Royal Darwin Hospital about 2.15am Saturday but was told he should “try Palmerston” or wait until the doctor arrived for the day shift.

“I walked in with my face half split – and (they said) come back tomorrow,” Mr Dell said.

He said he thought about his options on the 20-minute taxi ride home.

After pondering on it, he decided dental floss was the best way to go. “I think Crocodile Dundee did it once,” Mr Dell said.

“It worked.”…

The prosecutor accused the maid of raping the baby and endangering his life. When she was shown the film, she confessed to her crime.

Quoted by the semi-official daily Alittihad, a prosecution source said the maid faces up to 15 years in jail in line with the federal law meting out such punishment against crimes involving rape of people under 14 years.

“The UAE deals firmly with any thing that endangers children and harms them physically and psychologically..…under the law, the parents bear the responsibility to protect their children against such dangers,” the source said.

“The prosecution office is very much worried about the growing phenomenon of families relying heavily on maids to look after their children…the UAE law considers that parents leaving their child alone with a maid amounts to an act of endangering others’ life…this crime is punishable under law.”
